Meera Sabaratnam is an Associate Professor of International Relations at New College, Oxford. Her research explores the colonial and postcolonial dimensions of world politics, examining how imperial structures, institutions, and social relations continue to shape global affairs today.
Her work has focused on international state building, peacebuilding, and development assistance, as well as broader questions of war, power, and knowledge in the international system. She is currently writing Complex Indebtedness, a book that places material and moral indebtedness at the heart of a postcolonial analysis of the global order.
Previously, she has held positions at SOAS, Cambridge, and LSE. Meera has served on the Academic Freedom Committee of the International Studies Association (ISA) and co-founded the Colonial/Postcolonial/Decolonial Working Group of the British International Studies Association. She co-edits the Postcolonial International Studies book series at Manchester University Press and serves on editorial boards including International Studies Quarterly and Security Dialogue.
